The island Vis is the foremost Croatian island with the area of 90,3 km2 and the highest point Hum at the altitude of 587m. About 5000 people inhabit two main towns – Vis and Komiža – as well as numerous villages and bays of the island. The mentioned towns are situated in two deep bays: Komiža on the western part of the island and Vis on its northern part.
The island is rich with bays and small islands. Bays on both northern and eastern part of the island are worth a visit. Among them, Stončica, Tiha, Okljucna, Srebrena, Stiniva and Travna can be singled out.
For those who love sand, Vis offers three beaches: Stoncica, Milna and the beautiful Zaglav.
The south-east part of the island is the only one that disposes with a small archipelago of an exceptional beauty. Hence, during your stay, you should not miss visiting the island of Budihovac with two beautiful beaches, Ravnik with famous Green Cave and Parzanj well-known for cappari and wild onion.
The island Biševo with its famous Blue Cave belongs to the teritory of Vis. Numerous local tourist agencies organize daily trips including visit to the Cave, as well as swimming ob the island's beautiful beaches.
In the inland there are vast and fertile fields Dračevo Polje, Velo Polje, Zlopolje, Voščica, Smokovo Polje and the others, suitable for growing wine trees. The island is well-known for the high-quality wine, and the fact that many of the locals are involved in its production, can be seen from a number of wine-roads.
Apart from vineyards, the inland is rich in traditional settlements and family-owned taverns. Take the opportunity and taste the local specialties in their authentic atmosphere.
The towns of Vis and Komiža offer cultural events, restaurants and entertainment. At the same time, they are rich in old houses and villas that witness the traditional architectural style of the island.
The fact that the island was inhabited in the times of ancient Greeks and Romans can be seen from the archaeological remains of the town of Issa that exist in today's port of Vis.
For the funs of sport activities, there are organised diving clubs and tennis courts on the island.
